Care Instructions
Every AfriKen piece is made to last. With the right care, your bag, scarf, or jewellery will age beautifully and improve with time. Here is how to look after each product type.
🏺 Leather Goods
Cleaning
- ✓ Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth
- ✓ For stubborn marks, use a leather cleaner
- ✗ Never use harsh chemicals or household detergents
- ✗ Never submerge in water or machine wash
Conditioning
- ✓ Apply leather conditioner every 3–6 months
- ✓ Use a soft cloth, work in circular motions
- ✓ Allow to absorb before use
- ✗ Never use petroleum-based products
Storage
- ✓ Store in the dust bag provided
- ✓ Stuff with tissue to maintain shape
- ✓ Keep in a cool, dry place
- ✗ Avoid direct sunlight and humidity
General Tips
- ✓ Leather improves and softens with use
- ✓ Treat with water repellent spray for rainy season
- ✗ Do not overload beyond recommended capacity
- ✗ Avoid prolonged exposure to rain
🧣 Scarves & Headscarves
Washing
- ✓ Hand wash in cold water
- ✓ Use mild soap or gentle detergent
- ✗ Do not wring or twist
- ✗ Do not machine wash
- ✗ Do not bleach
Drying
- ✓ Lay flat to dry in shade
- ✓ Gently reshape while damp
- ✗ Do not tumble dry
- ✗ Avoid direct sunlight when drying — fades natural dyes
Ironing & Storage
- ✓ Iron on low heat on reverse side
- ✓ Use a damp cloth between iron and scarf
- ✓ Fold loosely for storage
- ✗ Do not dry clean
💛 Jewellery (Brass)
Everyday Care
- ✓ Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth after wearing
- ✓ Polish with a brass cloth to restore shine
- ✗ Remove before swimming, bathing, or exercising
- ✗ Keep away from perfume and lotions
Storage
- ✓ Store in the pouch provided
- ✓ Keep in a dry place away from moisture
- ✓ Store each pair separately to prevent scratching
- ✗ Brass naturally patinas over time — this is normal and beautiful
