The Beginning
It started with a simple observation: Kenyan artisans were making extraordinary things — leather goods of real quality, handwoven textiles, jewellery with genuine craft — and most of it was being sold for almost nothing at tourist markets or exported without credit.
We asked ourselves: what if we could change that? What if we could build a brand that put these craftspeople at the centre, paid them fairly, and brought their work to people who would truly value it?
That question became AfriKen.

Kenyan Artisans
The Name
Africa and Kenya — woven into one word. It is who we are and where everything we make comes from.
But AfriKen also means us — the maker and the buyer, connected by an object that carries a story between them. Every bag you carry, every scarf you wear, every pair of earrings you put on — it is a thread between you and the person who made it, and the place it comes from.
The Artisans
We work with over 24 Kenyan artisans across Nairobi and the surrounding regions — leather workers from Kamukunji, textile weavers from Murang'a, and jewellery makers from Eastlands.
Every artisan is paid above market rate. Every product carries their knowledge. Some of these techniques have been in their families for three or four generations.
When you buy an AfriKen piece, you are not just buying an accessory. You are investing in a person, a family, and a craft tradition that deserves to survive.

AfriKen launched in 2024 with a small collection and a big belief — that African craftsmanship deserves a global stage. We're working every day to earn that stage, one handcrafted piece at a time.
